On August 26th,
A massive glacier avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border triggered devastating flash floods and landslides,
taking lives, displacing families, and destroying entire villages and critical infrastructure.
Moving Mountains in Rhode Island’s movement + outdoor community responding from where we are — gathering, moving + raising funds in support of relief and recovery in Nepal.
What we’re about
-
Moving Mountains is a collaborative fundraiser bringing together movement professionals, studios, and communities across Rhode Island in response to the recent devastating floods in Nepal.
Through donation-based classes and gatherings, we’re raising funds for Nepali-led relief efforts while creating space for movement, community, and meaningful action in the face of a changing climate.

Local Leadership
Relief should be led by the people and communities closest to the work. Funds raised through Moving Mountains support Nepali-led relief efforts.Solidarity
We are not here to speak for communities in Nepal. We are here to listen, amplify, raise resources, and respond from where we are.Action over Apathy
Climate grief and anxiety are real. They can coexist with agency- and small, consistent concrete actions matter. We cannot respond to the climate emergency by looking away. We choose to turn toward it, together.Community
Movement gives us a place to gather. We use it here not as a solution to the climate crisis, but as a way to stay connected to ourselves, one another, and the work ahead. -
The news of the recent flooding was devastating. I knew I wanted to do something to raise funds for relief in Nepal and respond from where I am.
As I was figuring out what that might look like, a text came in from my grandmother:
“Lauren. ❤️ I hope you have found a way to help the people of Nepal. 🙏”
I kept coming back to a simple mantra I first encountered painted on a wall in Jawalakhel after the 2015 earthquakes:
Start where you stand.
For me, that means Rhode Island.
Rhode Island has an extraordinary network of movement teachers, studios, clinicians, gyms, and community spaces. Moving Mountains brings that network together- each offering what they already do well and directing our collective energy toward tangible support for Nepal.
What began as an idea for one benefit class became an invitation to an entire movement community. We get there together, or we get nowhere at all.
Moving Mountains belongs to everyone who chooses to take part.
